The
Petronas Towers, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers, in Malay means Menara
Petronas, or Menara Berkembar Petronas, are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia.
The
452 meters tall towers are one of the highest in the world. The two identical
towers are linked by a sky bridge on the 41st floor, creating a
dramatic gateway to the city. The sky bridge measures 58.4 meters long and 170
meters high. The sky bridge is the highest point for visitors, where they can
also find a restaurant.
The
buildings were designed by Caesar Pelli and built for Malaysia’s national oil
company. There are 88 stories of offices, supported by 16 concrete pillars in
each tower. Steel and glass were also used to build the towers.
At
the feet of the Petronas Towers is the trendy shopping mall “Suria KLCC”. The
shopping mall has such expensive shops as Armani, Chopard, Hermes, Gucci. There
are also a cinema, concert hall, conference hall and prayer rooms for Muslims.
At
the highest level is a small museum of the Petronas Oil Company, of which
Malaysia is very proud. To reach the upper floors, visitors can use the
vertical transportation, the double-deck high speed passenger lifts. There are
10 elevators in each tower.

ANSWER
THE QUESTIONS BASED ON THE TEXT
Have
you ever heard of Sasando? My uncle introduced the term to me. Sasando is a
harp-like traditional string musical instrument from Rote Island, East Nusa
Tenggara, Indonesia. The name Sasando derives from “saandu” which means
vibrating or sound instrument.
My
uncle has one. He can’t play it really well, but knows the techniques of how to
play it. He bought it during a trip to East Nusa Tenggara, last year.
My
uncle’s Sasando is a bamboo tube that serves as the frame of the instrument.
The tube is surrounded by several wooden wedges, where the strings are
stretched from the top to the bottom. The wedges are to hold the strings higher
than the tube surface, to produce various length of strings which create
different musical notations. The bamboo tube is surrounded by a bag-like fan or
dried lontar or palmyra leaf, which is used as the resonator.
My
uncle once showed me how to play it; that is with both hands reaching the
strings on the bamboo tube through the lontar opening on the front and the
player’s fingers pluck the strings similar to playing a harp.
